v2025.07.27 changelog
Going Knowhere » Devlog
In an effort to streamline the rules and interactions, the premise has slightly shifted from battling the Knowbles to passing their trials (of combat, wits, etc.). An exact match is a pass, any other result is a failure. This always more closely aligned to a trial with a precise goal than traditional damage > hit points type combat.
- Tweaked premise from battling 12 Knowbles to passing their 12 trials.
- Armory renamed to Source.
- Arsenal renamed to Inventory.
- Reliquary and Relics renamed to the Veil and Obstacles.
- Items renamed (and uncapitalized) to resources.
- Curses renamed Hazards.
- Lorekeeper's Passage renamed Wit's End. Lady Wit is still as helpful as ever.
- Attempt is now a simple one-turn pass/fail check. Discard cards from your Inventory. If their total matches goal = pass, if their total is over or under goal = fail. If you cant play at least as many cards as trial's difficulty, you retreat (end the run).
- Some Feat and Ability names changed.
- New Ability Damage Control - When you fail a trial by exceeding its Goal, place the Obstacle(s) at the bottom of the Source instead. Now, the default rule is when you fail a trial, the Obstacle is discarded with the Knowble!
- Hazards target the highest-rank card again (was highest-strength before but that was confusing with Aces that could be 1 or 11, then was first card in Arsenal but that was also confusing).
This looks like a lot of changes, but really a handful of renamed elements to better match the streamlined pass/fail trial turn structure.
I will release an updated how-to-play video with these changes later tonight.
