Scoring system changes alongside 2nd "Knowtorious" expansion release!

I wanted to start by saying thank you to everyone for the feedback and support of this game thus far!

Based on feedback from various sources and my own playtesting, the one minor gripe of the game was scoring. So, for past several months while I was working on the 2nd expansion of the game I was also extensively testing a new scoring system that would have impacts on current and future cards.

In the new scoring system, you must gain a certain threshold of points as part of the win condition. Points have been changed from "Knowledge" to "Power" represented by a Star symbol.  Also, the point reward values have been normalized to make tracking your current score during the game and comparing your scores between games much easier. Previously, your score had no bearing on whether you won or lost and the range of scores could vary from 0-45 points. Now, you must score at least 9 points (max available points in Core Set is 15), so the range is much tighter and more manageable. There's even a new "Allstar Challenge" of trying to gain all available points in the deck.

Many of the card abilities have been tweaked or revamped to adhere to the new scoring system. The intent was to shift away from variable scoring rewards and only have binary/static scoring objectives with static rewards; either you complete it and gain X points or you don't. This was done because in the old scoring system, your deck composition and card orientations had to be nearly perfect to reach the higher scores. Under the new system, the scoring objectives are a little less rigid so a wide variety of completed scoring objectives, deck composition and orientations will result in good scores.

Old Scoring System (v4.3):

The primary goal of the game is to avoid game-losing situations until you’re in a position to win the game.

The secondary goal of the game is to beat-your-own-score by completing as many scoring objectives as possible, before winning the game.

Thematically, the gained Knowledge is an additional benefit of being inside a powerful wizard’s mind.

New Scoring System (v5.0+):
The primary goal of the game is still to avoid game-losing situations until you’re in a position to win the game.

However, completing scoring objectives to gain at least 9 available Power is now REQUIRED as part of the win condition.

Thematically, you must channel Power from manifestations within Galdor's mind to seal Feragot in the illusory prison conjured by Galdor.

To recap, this major update brings some changes to the scoring system:

  • Points have been changed from "Knowledge" represented by a numeric value inside a Laurel Wreath symbol to "Power" represented by a Star symbol.
  • Point rewards have been normalized across all set and expansions. Most scoring cords now reward 1 point, a few reward 2 points.
  • You must gain at least 9 Power to win the game.
  • Many card abilities from both the Core Set and expansion have been altered or completed changed to adhere the new scoring system. Some cards in the 1st expansion had to be completed replaced with new cards that properly function under the new scoring system.

Some other notable minor changes to visual and graphic design improvements include:

  • The the event trigger symbols have been simplified so they're more distinguishable at a glance.
  • "End your turn" has been added to Frenzied Flame's ability so you know to skip the encounter phase of that turn and continue to the next turn. This has also been added to Drifting Isles's ability from 1st "Knowtional" Expansion.
  • Small directional arrows have been added to the Binding Stone values for easier referencing toward the Galdor's Grip card's first ability.
